TV academy voters fall over themselves to reward Oscar
winners, and this year is no exception with 18 Oscar champs nominated for the

song “Skyfall” and now contends at the Emmys for her NBC Variety Special “Adele
Live In New York City.” See more by clicking through our photo gallery above.
2016 Emmy Awards: Complete list of nominations
Among the notable names on the list is perennial Emmy
als0-ran Kevin Spacey (“House of Cards”), who won Oscars on both his bids — the
first as a supporting actor in “The Usual Suspects” (1995), the second as the
lead in “American Beauty” (1999). This year he is nominated for the fourth time
at the Emmys as Best Drama Actor for his role as Francis Underwood on “House of
Cards.” He also produces the series for Netflix, so he could win two.
Maggie Smith is also a two-time Oscar champ, with wins for
Best Actress (“The Prime of Miss Jean Brodie,” 1969) and Best Supporting
Actress (“California Suite,” 1978). She’s already won two Emmy Awards for
“Downton Abbey” (2011, 2012) and another for “My House in Umbria” (2003). This
year, she contends as the Dowager Countess for the very last time on the
departing PBS drama.

Among producers and directors, John Ridley is nominated for
producing Season 2 of ABC’s popular limited series “American Crime.” He
previously won the Oscar for Best Adapted Screenplay for “12 Years a Slave”
(2013).
And Steven Soderbergh is nominated at the Emmys for
directing “The Knick,” after previously winning in 2013 for editing and
directing the telefilm “Behind the Candelabra.” Soderbergh had the unusual
circumstance of defeating himself as Best Director at the Oscars in 2000
(“Traffic” over “Erin Brockovich”).
